Katahdin lamb

Katahdin lamb has a mild flavor, unlike the woolly lamb breeds that carry a much heavier, somewhat gamey flavor. Even customer’s family members who have never enjoyed lamb find Katahdin lamb delicious. Try it for yourself!

Border collies

“Man’s best friend” is an understatement once you’ve owned a Border Collie. Sure, they are the smartest dog on the planet, but they’re also the hardest working and most loyal dog you will ever meet.

Targeted grazing

I became intersted in targeted grazing for weed and fire abatement in 2006. I graduated from San Jose State University and managed to stay living in the Bay Area for 15 years. During that time, I witnessed plenty of fire occurrances in the surrounding coastal hills and grew to appreciate even more the value that small ruminants add to a holistic environmental management system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Katahdin ~ The greatest hair sheep on the planet

Why Katahdins

Katahdin sheep are easy keepers. This hair sheep breed does not require any shearing, docking, or heavy vaccinations making life easier on the rancher.

Katahdins are docile in nature and easy to work with. They respond well when gathered with working dogs flocking tightly together and easily making their way to the handler.

Parasite resistance

Katahdins are naturally resistant to parasites and require little to no vaccinations. Incorporate proper pasture rotation virtually eliminates parasitic load making for a healthier animal.

Mothering

Katahdins are good mothers, rarely abandoning their lambs, especially after their first lambing. This adds to the exceptional growth rates of Katahdin lambs because the ewe is constantly nearby for lambs to feed.

Productivity

Katahdin sheep regularly produce twins and triplets, even quadruplets and will raise them with little to no issue.

Meat

Katahdin lamb is spectacular and by far the best of all hair sheep breeds. Even producers of Dorper sheep will tell you, if they’re being honest, that they prefer the Katahdin lamb to theirs. Milder than the woolly sheep, many people who have little preference for lamb will likely enjoy Katahdin meat.
